Frequently asked questions

Can I claim if I resigned voluntarily?

Voluntary resignation is normally excluded, unless there was a valid reason (harassment, unpaid wages, an unreasonable relocation, and similar). Involuntary separation (layoff, contract end) qualifies once you have 180+ days of insured employment. The employment centre makes the final call.

Can the daily amount grow without limit?

No. Even at 60% of your average wage, the daily benefit cannot exceed the ceiling set each year. Conversely, lower earners are guaranteed a floor amount tied to the minimum wage.

What if I find a job before the eligible days run out?

You may qualify for an early re-employment incentive — a lump sum tied to your remaining eligible days if you find work with enough days still left.
